We are in the midst of a global health crisis and it is only right that we treat it like one. Postponing COP26 is a necessary move, not just to protect the population but also to allow us time to recover from the pandemic and mobilize to put climate change at the top of the agenda.
We hope the countries shall aim to act ambitiously in solving the climate crisis within the next 20 months and that progress on this critical issue is made despite the postponement.
COVID-19 has highlighted the fundamental issues and inequalities of today’s political system, revealing the urgent need for structural change in every aspect of society. UKSCN will carry on strategising and planning, using this time to skill up activists and strengthen our movement for climate justice.
